Lagos APC Stakeholders Move Against Key Lawmakers Ahead Of 2027 Primaries

Fresh political tensions are brewing within the Lagos chapter of the All Progressives Congress as several party stakeholders and grassroots loyalists have reportedly intensified moves against some members of the Lagos State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 elections.

Investigations by party insiders revealed that many influential APC members remain dissatisfied with the roles allegedly played by some lawmakers during the leadership crisis that rocked the Assembly earlier this year, describing the development as a betrayal of the party’s long-standing political structure and leadership tradition.

Among lawmakers repeatedly mentioned in ongoing political conversations are Desmond Olushola Elliott, Temitope Adewale, Mojisola Lasbat Meranda, Tobun Abiodun and Saheed Wasiu Obafemi, alongside others believed to have aligned against the established leadership direction within the party.

Several APC loyalists argued that the crisis exposed dangerous cracks within the ruling party and embarrassed the state politically at a period when party unity and coordination were expected to remain sacrosanct.

According to stakeholders, the manner the Assembly leadership battle unfolded raised serious concerns about loyalty, political maturity, consultation and respect for party hierarchy, particularly in a state widely regarded as the stronghold of disciplined progressive politics.

Party sources disclosed that many elders and grassroots mobilisers have continued to express disappointment over what they described as an “avoidable internal rebellion” allegedly driven by personal ambition and power calculations.

Some loyalists also insisted that lawmakers occupying sensitive leadership positions ought to have protected the stability of the House rather than escalate divisions capable of damaging the image of the APC both within and outside Lagos.

Although some party members reportedly appealed for leniency towards first-term lawmakers believed to have been influenced during the crisis, many stakeholders maintained that ranking lawmakers and senior political actors allegedly involved should be held accountable politically.

The growing resentment, it was learnt, may significantly influence the APC’s screening process and ticket allocation ahead of the 2027 elections, as many party faithful continue to demand strict loyalty and discipline from elected officials.

Political observers within the party now believe the next round of primaries may become a major test of internal control, loyalty and the survival of the long-established political structure that has shaped Lagos politics for decades.
