Tragedy has struck the Lagos education community following the sudden and mysterious death of Mrs. Ajayi Ikweoku, the principal of Salvation Army Memorial High School, Ojo, and her husband during a Sallah visit to Badagry.
According to multiple sources, the couple had checked into Prime Garden Hotel, located along Census Extension in Badagry, as part of their holiday plans, which included attending festivities and meeting with business associates and family friends.
Eyewitness accounts reveal that the couple spent time in the hotel lobby with friends, where they reportedly had a light meal and consumed non-alcoholic drinks. At some point, Mrs. Ajayi excused herself and returned to their room.
Concern arose when she failed to return after nearly two hours and did not respond to repeated phone calls. Her husband subsequently went upstairs to check on her but also failed to return, heightening fears among those present.
After several hours of unsuccessful attempts to reach the couple, hotel management reportedly intervened. With the room locked from the inside, suspicion grew that something was wrong. Authorities later accessed the hotel’s emergency CCTV system, where the couple was seen lying motionless in the bathroom area.
Hotel staff eventually used a spare key to gain entry into the room, where the couple was found lifeless in a bathtub, reportedly surrounded by vomit. It is believed they may have been dead for several hours before discovery.
The shocking incident has left family members, colleagues, students, and the wider community in deep mourning. Many have called for a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.
Authorities are expected to conduct further inquiries, including medical examinations and possible toxicology tests, to determine the exact cause of death.
