Media team speaks on video of protesters at Sultan’s palace

The Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar, has reacted to the video of protesters at the palace of the revered monarch.

A member of the Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto, Aminu Haliru Gidadawa, spoke on this in a statement he issued on Sunday.

In the statement he made available to newsmen, Gidadawa said: “The Media Team of the Sultan of Sokoto has observed the circulation of a video showing some individuals gathered in front of the Sultan’s Palace while brandishing leaves. We wish to categorically state that the video is old and currently being recirculated, probably, by mischief-makers to create a false impression about the peaceful relationship between the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, CFR, mni, and his people of the Caliphate.

“The public is hereby advised to disregard the misleading narrative being attached to the video. There is no crisis, disagreement, or unrest involving the Sultan and his subjects. Attempts to politicize the revered institution of the Sultanate through the circulation of outdated and politically motivated content should be condemned by all well-meaning Nigerians.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we wish to clarify the following:

“That the video is not recent. The footage dates back to 2024 during nationwide protests over the rising cost of food and economic hardship. It is now being deliberately shared out of context to mislead the public.

“The Sultan’s position has remained consistent. His Eminence has always expressed concern over the hardship faced by Nigerians and continues to advocate policies and measures aimed at improving the welfare of citizens.

“There is peace at the Sultan’s Palace. The palace and its surrounding areas remain calm and peaceful. There are currently no protests, disturbances, or security concerns in or around the palace.

“We therefore urge members of the public to verify information before sharing it, especially on social media platforms. The deliberate resurfacing of old videos to create tension or imply ongoing unrest serves no constructive purpose and only distracts from collective efforts toward peace, food security, and national development.”
