A Migori man is serving 25 years in prison after being linked to the death of a Manchester United supporter following a heated confrontation during a football match.

The man, identified as Omar, was watching an Arsenal versus Manchester United match in Nakuru. when tensions reportedly flared between rival fans.
Speaking to Jamba TV, the inmate said that the Manchester United supporter allegedly mocked Arsenal fans during the game, making remarks that angered Omar. He admitted that the confrontation escalated as he grabbed the victim by the shirt during the argument.
“Man-U ilifunga mbao moja akasema watu wa Arsenal ni watu wa kujinyonga nyonga, na ati tusijinyonge sana. Hayo maneno yaliniudhi sana nikapata nimewambia pia sisi ni wanaume (Man-U scored a goal and he said that Arsenal fans are weak. I was so angry and I told him that we are men),” he recounted the fight.

How Omar ended up in prison
The following day, the Manchester United supporter reportedly went missing. His body was later discovered three days later, sparking investigations by police.

During investigations, a witness allegedly identified Omar in a police identification parade as the man who had confronted the deceased during the match screening.
The evidence presented in court led to his conviction and eventual sentencing to 20 years behind bars.
Speaking after the sentencing, Omar reportedly maintained his innocence, insisting he did not know the victim personally and had nothing to do with his death.
However, he admitted that emotions got the better of him during the football clash.
“I do not regret being an Arsenal fan, but I could have handled my emotions better,” he said.
The case has sparked conversations online about football rivalry and growing cases of violence linked to sporting passions.
