Temi Kosoko, daughter of veteran Nollywood actor Jide Kosoko, has spoken openly about the constant public perception surrounding her family and their place in the Nigerian film industry.
In a recent discussion, she addressed claims that her family enjoys an unfair advantage because of their father’s long-standing influence in Nollywood.
According to her, while the Kosoko name may open initial doors, sustained success has required consistent effort and dedication from every member of the family.
She noted that people often assume that she and her siblings rely solely on their father’s reputation to get roles or opportunities in filmmaking. However, she insisted that such assumptions overlook the amount of work they put in individually to build their careers.
Temi explained that criticisms about arrogance and entitlement are frequently directed at her family, with some colleagues even escalating issues directly to their father.
She described the situation as unfair, stressing that public judgment does not reflect the reality of their daily struggles in the industry.
She further highlighted that her father has a large family of 13 children, making it unrealistic to assume he personally funds or sponsors every project or creative ambition.
According to her, each child has had to find their own path and contribute their own effort to survive in the competitive entertainment space.
Temi maintained that although family background can provide exposure, it does not guarantee long-term success. She emphasized that discipline, persistence, and hard work remain the core reasons behind any achievements attributed to the Kosoko name.
She also pointed out that the entertainment industry is highly competitive, and no one maintains relevance without proving their individual talent. In her view, relying solely on a famous surname is not sustainable, especially in a fast-changing creative environment like Nollywood.
Despite the criticism, Temi described her family as one built on resilience and strong work ethics. She said that every member of the Kosoko household understands the importance of earning their place rather than depending on recognition tied to their father.
She reiterated that while she does not deny the advantage that comes with being Jide Kosoko’s daughter, it should not be mistaken for automatic success. In her words, “the name may open the door, but we still have to walk through it and prove ourselves.”
Her comments have sparked renewed conversations about nepotism, privilege, and merit in the Nigerian entertainment industry, where many young actors from established families continue to face scrutiny over how they secure roles.
Temi concluded by reaffirming that hard work remains the foundation of her journey and that she, alongside her siblings, continues to push forward in building independent careers within Nollywood.
