A dramatic confrontation between a Nairobi employer and her househelp has sparked heated reactions online after a viral video showed the domestic worker hiding in the bathroom to do a bizarre act.

In the clip widely shared on social media, the househelp is confronted by her employer after reportedly being found hiding inside the bathroom while laundry chores remained unfinished.
In the video circulating on Facebook, the employer accuses the woman of secretly consuming alcohol during working hours, leading to a tense exchange between the two.
During the confrontation, the househelp admitted she had taken alcohol but explained that she was overwhelmed by stress. She appeared emotional as she attempted to defend herself, saying personal struggles had pushed her to the decision.
“Why are you in here, taking alcohol?” the employer angrily asked as the househelp put a down her bottle of booze and continued to do laundry.
“I am just so stressed. I am stressed about money. Stop scolding me,” she responded.

The employer, however, expressed disappointment over the incident, arguing that the worker’s behaviour was unacceptable, especially while carrying out household duties. Moments later, the boss informed the househelp that she had been dismissed from her job.
The video has since gone viral, attracting mixed reactions from Kenyans online. While some social media users supported the employer’s decision to fire the worker, others sympathised with the househelp, saying domestic workers often face immense pressure and emotional struggles that are rarely addressed.
The incident has reignited conversations around mental health, stress and working conditions for domestic workers in Kenya.
