A Ghanaian traditional priest, Nana Kwaku Bonsam, has sparked controversy after claiming he placed a spiritual curse on England captain Harry Kane ahead of Ghana’s FIFA World Cup encounter with the Three Lions.
Bonsam, one of Ghana’s most well-known traditional spiritualists, reportedly stated that he had used supernatural powers to prevent the Bayern Munich striker from scoring against the Black Stars during the highly anticipated World Cup fixture.
According to reports, the traditional priest said his intention was not to injure Kane but to ensure that the England forward would be unable to make a significant impact during the match. His comments quickly gained attention across international media platforms and social media, reigniting discussions about the influence of superstition and traditional beliefs in football.

The claim is not the first time Bonsam has made headlines for linking spiritual activities to major football tournaments. During the 2014 FIFA World Cup, he similarly claimed responsibility for the injury problems suffered by Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo ahead of Portugal’s match against Ghana. However, no evidence has ever been provided to substantiate such claims.
