The Nigerian Defence Academy has distanced itself from widely circulated social media reports detailing disciplinary actions against some of its cadets, describing the публикаtions as unauthorised and misleading.

The academy said the viral posts, which outlined sanctions imposed on cadets over alleged offences, did not emanate from its official channels and should be disregarded by the public.

In a statement issued on Friday by its Public Relations Officer, Reuben Kovangiya, the NDA explained that the disciplinary measures followed its routine Commandant’s Orders held at its headquarters in Kaduna.

According to the statement, Commandant’s Orders remain an established administrative process in military institutions for addressing infractions and enforcing discipline among cadets.

The academy acknowledged that some cadets were sanctioned for various offences, including theft, brutality, substance abuse, absence without leave and other breaches of conduct. It added that penalties imposed ranged from confinement and relegation to withdrawal and outright dismissal, depending on the gravity of each case.

However, the NDA emphasised that the detailed reports circulating online were not authorised disclosures.

“The academy does not indulge in publicising administrative procedures or disciplinary actions, in line with military ethics, traditions and the principle of confidentiality guiding such processes,” the statement read.

It further suggested that the viral публикаtions may have originated from individuals seeking attention or relevance.

Reiterating its stance, the academy stressed its commitment to maintaining strict discipline and upholding high moral and professional standards among its cadets.

The NDA also assured the public that it would continue to train officers who are not only academically sound but also grounded in character and leadership values required by the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

It added that it operates a zero-tolerance policy for misconduct and remains resolute in enforcing its code of conduct without compromise.
