The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered stolen vehicles and weapons in a series of intelligence-driven operations across the state.

The suspects — Hammed Olarewaju, Adedokun Ayinde, and Adedokun Adewusi — were apprehended by operatives of the Anti-Robbery Squad following investigations into multiple cases of vehicle theft within Ogun and neighbouring states.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the breakthrough came after detectives intercepted Olarewaju with a suspicious vehicle number plate.

He said the arrest led to the capture of Ayinde, identified as the alleged leader of the gang.

“Further investigation led to the recovery of a Toyota Sienna earlier reported stolen, alongside a fabricated pistol believed to have been used in robbery operations,” Babaseyi said.

In a related operation, the police traced a Toyota Corolla stolen from Ilaro to Ibadan, Oyo State, where it was recovered from one Arowolo Taoreed.

Similarly, Adewusi was arrested over his alleged involvement in another robbery incident, with investigators linking him to a stolen 2017 Lexus RX 350 F-Sport vehicle traced to Abuja.

The police also recovered a second pistol in Ajah, Lagos State, suspected to be connected to the syndicate.

According to the command, preliminary findings indicate that the suspects are part of a coordinated criminal network responsible for car theft and armed robbery across multiple states.

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the operatives for their swift response and professionalism, noting that the operation underscored the command’s commitment to tackling violent crime.

“This operation reflects our resolve to sustain intelligence-led policing. Criminal elements will find no safe haven in Ogun State,” he said.

Ojajuni added that efforts were ongoing to track down fleeing members of the gang and recover more stolen vehicles.

The police urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies with timely information, stressing that public cooperation remains crucial in combating crime.
