The Ogun State House of Assembly has screened and approved two commissioner nominees, Mrs Adenike Ademokun and Olayemi Sanusi, following a request from Governor Dapo Abiodun seeking legislative backing for their appointments into the State Executive Council.
Ademokun was screened and confirmed on Thursday, while Sanusi’s confirmation had taken place earlier during a plenary session. Both exercises were conducted under the supervision of the Speaker, Daisi Elemide.
During Ademokun’s screening, lawmakers expressed confidence in her abilities and urged her to bring her wealth of experience to bear in strengthening governance and public administration in the state.
The legislative approval followed the consideration and adoption of a report from the Committee of the Whole House, which was presented by Hon. Babatunde Tella.
He noted that members were satisfied with her qualifications, experience, and conduct during the screening.
The motion for adoption was moved by Hon. Tella, seconded by Hon. Yusuf Amosun, and supported unanimously through a voice vote.
The House Leader, Hon. Yusuf Sheriff, subsequently moved a motion converting the report into a formal House resolution, seconded by Hon. Damilare Bello, thereby sealing her confirmation.
In her response during the screening, Ademokun expressed her intention to draw on her years of experience in the state public service including her most recent role as a commissioner in the State Civil Service Commission to support effective governance and improved service delivery.
Following the confirmation, the Speaker directed the Clerk and Head of Legislative Service, Sakiru Adebakin, to forward the House resolution to the governor for further action.
Regarding Sanusi’s earlier confirmation, the Speaker and other lawmakers charged him to uphold the high standards associated with Odeda Local Government Area, from which he hails, and to serve as a worthy representative of the council when appointed into office.
His confirmation similarly followed the adoption of a Committee of the Whole House report, presented by Hon. Lukman Adeleye, who noted that lawmakers were satisfied with his credentials and performance during the exercise.
The Speaker equally directed the Clerk to transmit the resolution to the governor.
Prior to his nomination, Sanusi had been serving as Special Assistant to the Governor on Agriculture and Food Security.
