Senior Special Assistant on Media to former Vice President, Paul Ibe, has dismissed reports alleging that Atiku Abubakar is ill and on bed rest, describing the publication as false and misleading.…....
Reacting to the report published by Sahara Reporters, Ibe accused the platform of engaging in what he termed “yellow journalism” and spreading unverified information.
According to the Atiku Media Office, the former vice president remains healthy, active, and fully involved in political activities ahead of the screening and primary election process of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
Ibe stated that after submitting his nomination forms on Thursday, Atiku observed Juma’at prayers at a mosque on Friday and continued consultations with party leaders and stakeholders.
He added that the former presidential candidate has remained engaged in strategic meetings as part of preparations linked to the ongoing political process.
The media aide rejected claims that Atiku had been placed on bed rest, insisting that the reports did not reflect the true situation.
He further criticised the publication, accusing it of relying on speculation, anonymous sources, and unverified claims.
“Journalism is not rumor peddling; it is a sacred pact with truth and facts,” the statement read.
The Atiku Media Office urged Nigerians to disregard the report entirely, maintaining that the former vice president remains focused and prepared for upcoming political engagements.
The statement was issued from Abuja and signed by the Atiku Media Office on May 18, 2026.
The development has generated reactions across political circles, with supporters of the former vice president defending his fitness and readiness ahead of activities leading to the 2027 elections.
