Plateau Senator loses APC return ticket

Incumbent Senator representing Plateau Central Senatorial District, Diket Plang, has lost his bid for a return ticket to the Senate after being defeated in the All Progressives Congress senatorial primaries for Plateau Central Senatorial District held on Monday.

Businessman, David Bitrus Barji, emerged as the winner of the contest, defeating Plang and other aspirants by a wide margin.

Announcing the results on Tuesday, the Returning Officer, Saddat Garga, said Barji polled a total of 57,727 votes to clinch the party’s ticket.

According to the results declared, Senator Diket Plang came a distant second with 1,822 votes, while Usman Ephraim Gar, a serving state Commissioner, secured 1,322 votes.

Other aspirants in the race also trailed behind.

“Piwunna John garnered 670 votes, just as Beatrice Clement James polled 652 votes,” the returning officer added.

Speaking on his election, Garga described the exercise as peaceful and transparent.

“I commend party delegates for their orderly conduct throughout the primary election.”

With the victory, Barji is now set to represent the APC in the forthcoming senatorial election for Plateau Central during the 2027 general elections.
