A Point of Sale (POS) operator has narrated how she allegedly lost ₦86,400 after a customer reportedly manipulated a transaction during a cash withdrawal.
According to the operator, the incident occurred on Thursday evening when a man visited her shop to withdraw ₦96,000. She said she collected the customer’s ATM card, inserted it into the POS machine, and entered the withdrawal amount before handing the device to him to input his PIN.
While counting out the cash, she said the customer completed the transaction process and returned the POS machine to her. Upon seeing an “Approved” notification on the device, she handed over the ₦96,000 requested.
However, moments after the customer left, she checked her transaction history and was shocked to discover that the transaction was recorded as ₦9,600 instead of ₦96,000.
The distraught operator said she remains confused about how the amount changed, insisting that she originally entered ₦96,000 into the machine. She suspects the customer may have altered the transaction amount while entering his PIN, though she is unsure exactly how it happened.
