According to a report by Daily Post on Saturday, June 20, 2026, director of the Abuja School of Social Thought and Politics, Sam Amadi, has stated that continued attacks against the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr. Peter Obi, have not reduced his popularity among supporters because, according to him, there are no credible allegations of corruption or scandal linked to the former Anambra State governor.
Amadi made the remarks in a post shared on the social media platform X on Saturday, where he responded to ongoing political discussions surrounding Obi’s public image and the reactions of his supporters to criticisms from political opponents and commentators.
The comments from Amadi came in the context of a wider debate triggered by statements made by actor-turned-politician Kenneth Okonkwo, who recently issued remarks concerning Obi and his political base.
The discussion gained traction online after differing political camps engaged in exchanges over the conduct of supporters and the tone of political discourse.
An X user identified as @RealQueenBee had earlier referenced comments attributed to Okonkwo, in which he reportedly threatened to release information that could negatively affect Obi’s political career if supporters of the former presidential candidate continued to direct attacks at him on social media.
The post generated further conversation across online platforms, with users interpreting the exchange as part of ongoing tensions within Nigeria’s political space, particularly among figures associated with opposition movements and their supporters.
In his reaction to the post, Sam Amadi maintained that Obi’s political appeal remains largely unaffected by such controversies.
He argued that critics of the presidential candidate have not presented any factual evidence capable of undermining his reputation.
According to him, public attacks directed at Obi have largely remained within the realm of political criticism rather than revelations based on verifiable wrongdoing.
He further suggested that the absence of concrete allegations has allowed Obi’s popularity to remain stable despite persistent political opposition and commentary.
Amadi further emphasized that the continued support for Obi is linked to perceptions of integrity and public trust among his followers, noting that political narratives alone have not been sufficient to alter those perceptions.
He stated that the discourse surrounding Obi often reflects broader political disagreements rather than substantive issues related to misconduct or corruption.
The Abuja School of Social Thought and Politics director also indicated that the ongoing debates highlight the polarized nature of political engagement in the country, especially on digital platforms where exchanges between supporters and critics frequently escalate.
He said, “His political popularity is not damaged because his traducers are merely expressing elitist derision and not bombing him with any factual revelation. He is still the best available on presidential slate today.”
