Police in Gujarat have registered a murder case against a woman accused of poisoning and strangling her three children before attempting suicide, officials confirmed on Wednesday, May 27. The incident took place in Valsad, Gujarat, after the woman’s husband reportedly discovered her extramarital affair.
According to Valsad deputy superintendent of police (DSP) JK Patel, authorities received information that a woman had killed her children, prompting an immediate investigation. “We got information that a woman has killed her children. Upon investigation, we found that an altercation between the husband and wife followed after he discovered his wife’s affair,” DSP Patel said.
The investigation revealed that the woman allegedly administered phenyl, a common household cleaning chemical, to her children and then consumed it herself. Police found all four unconscious at the residence. “She had made her children consume phenyl and did the same herself. We found her in an unconscious state and admitted her to a hospital. Further investigation is underway,” DSP Patel added.
The children were declared dead after the incident. The woman remains under treatment at a hospital and is under police watch. Officials said the case was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for murder, and further legal action will depend on her medical condition and statements once she is fit for questioning.
The case has drawn attention to the role of domestic conflict and marital disputes in violent crimes involving children. Valsad police said they are examining the sequence of events, collecting forensic evidence, and recording statements from family members and neighbors.
Authorities have not released the identities of the deceased children or the accused, citing privacy and ongoing investigation protocols. Police said they are also looking into whether there were prior instances of domestic violence or counseling interventions in the household…See More
