Panic and fear have gripped residents of Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno State after suspected Boko Haram terrorists reportedly abducted 42 students and pupils during an attack on Mussa Primary and Junior Secondary School.
The attack, which reportedly occurred on Friday morning, was disclosed by Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume, who represents Borno South Senatorial District. According to the senator, the gunmen stormed the school community in Mussa, an area near the Sambisa Forest, and forcefully took away dozens of children during the invasion.
Local sources said the insurgents arrived on motorcycles and began shooting sporadically, causing confusion among residents, teachers, and pupils. While some students reportedly escaped into nearby bushes, many others were allegedly captured and taken away by the attackers.
Preliminary reports indicate that the victims include pupils from the primary school section, students from the junior secondary school, and several children from nearby homes within the community.
Senator Ndume condemned the attack and called on security agencies, including troops of Operation Hadin Kai, to intensify rescue efforts and strengthen security across vulnerable communities in Borno State.
This is another painful tragedy for our people. The military and other security agencies must act swiftly to rescue these innocent children and prevent further attacks, Ndume reportedly stated.
