Sweden’s parliament has unanimously approved a new law banning marriages between cousins and other close relatives in a move aimed at tackling honor-related oppression, violence, and family pressure.
Under the new legislation, cousin marriages will no longer be allowed in the country, while marriages between cousins conducted abroad will generally not be recognized by Swedish authorities.
The law also prohibits marriages involving people directly related to a sibling of the other person, as well as unions between half-siblings and adopted siblings....... .
