Leaders of the All Progressives Congress in Taraba State have purchased the party’s governorship nomination form for chieftain David Kente, signalling fresh momentum around his possible bid for the 2027 governorship election.

The nomination form was presented to Kente on Saturday, 2 May, 2026 at his residence in Jalingo by former APC State Secretary, Godwin Villannah, who said he acted on behalf of party leaders across the state.

The presentation was disclosed in a statement issued by Kente’s campaign organisation.

According to Villannah, the decision to obtain the form followed extensive consultations among party stakeholders who believed Kente had the capacity to lead Taraba State.

“This gesture reflects our commitment to internal democracy and our belief that Chief David Sabo Kente possesses the leadership capacity to move Taraba State forward,” Villannah said.

He added that party elders and stakeholders reached a broad consensus that Kente should enter the race.

“We consulted widely, and there was a strong consensus among stakeholders that he should step into the race,” he stated.

Kente accepted the nomination form and thanked the leaders for what he described as a strong vote of confidence in his leadership.

“I am deeply humbled by this show of support and trust. After wide consultations and reflection, I have decided to accept the nomination form,” Kente said.

He subsequently appealed to APC members and residents of the state to support his aspiration.

“I call on all members of our great party and the good people of Taraba State to join hands with me as we work towards building a more inclusive and prosperous state,” he said.

Kente said his governorship ambition would be anchored on people-centred policies and sustainable development across communities.

“Our focus will be on policies that uplift our people, strengthen our communities and ensure that governance delivers real impact,” he added.

The development is expected to heighten early political activities within the Taraba APC as aspirants and stakeholders begin strategic consultations ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
