The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 20-year-old lady, Aisha Hassan, for allegedly hitting to death her 97-year-old grandmother, Hajiya Ummukhulsum Hassan, in Daura Local Government Area of the state.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen by the spokesperson of the command, Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, on Wednesday.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) said the incident occurred on June 12, 2026 at about 7pm when the suspect allegedly had a misunderstanding with her paternal grandmother, Hajiya Ummukhulsum Hassan.
Sadiq-Aliyu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), said the suspect allegedly struck the elderly woman on the head with a wooden chair during the altercation.
He said the matter was reported to the Sabon Garin Daura Police Station by the suspect’s father, Muktar Muhammad Hassan, on the same day.
According to him, police operatives immediately visited the scene and found the victim unconscious in a pool of blood.
“The victim was rushed to a hospital but was later confirmed dead by the doctor on duty,” he said.
The police spokesman said the suspect was arrested during the investigation and allegedly confessed to committing the offence.
He added that the suspect remained in police custody and would be charged to court after the conclusion of the investigation.
According to him, further developments on the case would be communicated in due course.
