Canada-based Nigerian doctor, Dr. Arinze Onwumelu, popularly known as Dr. Zo, has described what he called the current “Olodo Uprising” in Nigeria as the second phase of a trend he says first emerged in the 1970s and 1980s.
According to him, he witnessed the first phase while growing up, a period he said coincided with the rise of 419 fraud, when many young people abandoned education in pursuit of quick wealth.
“The Olodo Uprising we’re seeing in Nigeria today is the second phase. Many of those involved in this present generation are still learning.
“I grew up during the first phase of the Olodo Uprising in the 1970s and 1980s. Back then, that was when 419 became widespread. Some people dropped out of school, made quick money, and I can tell you for free that about 95% of them didn’t end well,” he said.
