The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with separate cases of alleged murder, secret burial, and child abuse, while commending residents for their vigilance and timely reporting of criminal activities.
According to the Command, the arrests followed credible information from members of the public, which helped security operatives uncover disturbing incidents currently trending on social media, including the alleged exhumation of a corpse in Nkpor and the brutal abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Isiowulu.
In the first case, a 33-year-old man, Ifechukwu Okechukwu, is being investigated over the alleged murder and secret burial of his 23-year-old girlfriend. Police said the case was reported after concerned residents raised the alarm, leading to his arrest. The State Criminal Investigation Department has since taken over the investigation to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
In a separate case, three suspects identified as Chukwudi Chukwuyere (40), Chisom Chukwuyere (30), and Arum Goodluck (16) are currently in custody over allegations of severe abuse of a 10-year-old boy in Odume Layout, Isiowulu. During interrogation, one of the suspects reportedly confessed to inflicting burns on the victim using molten plastic. The child is said to be receiving medical care and support.
The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to protecting lives and property, ensuring thorough investigations, and bringing all perpetrators to justice.
He also urged residents to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities through emergency hotlines or the nearest police station.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, issued the statement from the Anambra State Police Command headquarters in Awka on 15th June, 2026.
