Carrick lands first signing as Man U seal Éderson deal

Manchester United have reached an agreement with Atalanta to sign Brazilian midfielder Éderson in a deal worth £35 million, with a further £3.8 million in potential add-ons, being the first signing by Micahel Carrick.

The 26-year-old is expected to become the first signing under permanent head coach Carrick after both clubs finalised terms for the transfer.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano announced the deal on social media, saying: “Éderson to Manchester United, here we go!”

Romano added: “Deal done with Atalanta for €45m package with add-ons included, agreement now in place.”

He further stated: “Medical and formal steps to follow but deal in place.”

The midfielder is expected to sign a four-year contract until June 2030, with the option of an additional year.

Romano said: “Éderson will sign a four year deal plus option.”

The move remains subject to a medical examination and final paperwork, with all parties targeting completion in early July before United return for pre-season preparations.

United identified Éderson as a key addition to strengthen a midfield department that has been weakened by the departure of compatriot Casemiro, whose contract expires at the end of the month.

The Brazil international has earned three senior caps and was included in Brazil’s expanded 55-man World Cup squad before missing out on Carlo Ancelotti’s final selection.

Éderson has established himself as one of Serie A’s most consistent midfielders during his time at Atalanta.

Capable of operating in several central midfield roles, he scored 16 goals in 180 appearances across all competitions for the Italian club.

The deal is also seen as a product of United’s revamped recruitment structure led by director of football Jason Wilcox and the club’s enhanced data analysis department.

United are expected to remain active in the transfer market, with the club still looking to strengthen midfield and other key areas of Carrick’s squad ahead of the new season.
