At least 18 farmers have reportedly been killed and several others injured following a deadly attack on Kawel village in Mushere District of Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State.
According to reports, the attack occurred around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday when armed men stormed the community and opened fire on residents.
Speaking on the incident, Bokkos Youth Leader, Christopher Luka, disclosed that more than 20 people were shot during the attack, with 18 fatalities confirmed.
Luka explained that he received an alert from a member of the local youth council while the attack was ongoing and immediately contacted security operatives in the area.
According to him, security personnel informed him that they were already aware of the situation and were mobilizing to the community.
Describing the attack as unprovoked, Luka called on security agencies to take urgent measures to prevent further violence and protect residents of the area.
The latest incident comes just days after the killing of the District Head of Gwande in the same local government area. The traditional ruler was reportedly ambushed and killed while returning from a traditional council meeting.
The recurring attacks have heightened concerns over security in Plateau State, with residents urging authorities to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property.
