Gov Peter Mbah of Enugu State has been urged to fulfil his promises of constructing some strategic road networks in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area to ease the movement of people and agricultural products in the affected areas.
The reminder was made by Hon Simon Okechukwu, a former aide to ex-Gov Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi and native of the LGA, in a chat with THE WHISTLER in Enugu. He warned that non-fulfillment of the promises to his people would be regarded as neglect.
While commending the governor’s achievements in the past three years, such as Green Smart Schools, Type 2 Hospitals across Enugu’s 260 wards, and smart transport terminals, Okechukwu said the time had come for the governor to fulfill his promises to the people of Uzo-Uwani.
Okechukwu recalled that the governor had, on 4th March 2026, during a town-hall meeting at the Government House, Enugu, promised to begin construction of Edem-Nrobo-Abbi-Nimbo road, Nkpologu-Uvuru-Ukpata-Adaba-Umulokpa road, and Eke-Ebe-Akpakpume-Nze-Akpugo-Ezedike-Nkpologu road, leading to Adada Dam as well as to intervene on the Nsukka-Nkpologu-Adani-Ogurugu federal highway by the end of March, 2026.
According to him, “That hope is fading. There is no construction, no visible activity, no sign that the promise is being kept.”
Okechukwu recalled that Gov Mbah had during the 2023 election campaign also proposed a University of Agriculture to be located in Uzo-Uwani.
In his word, “What is happening now feels is like a repetition, and that perception is dangerous. This is no longer just about a University of Agriculture but roads for accessibility to our farmland. It is about credibility.”
He said with the rainy season underway, failed roads in the border LGA would “slow economic activities, isolate communities, and weaken response to threats”. He urged the governor to declare a state of emergency on the roads and mobilize contractors to sites.
In his words, “As 2027 elections approach, let the people see progress in Uzo-Uwani. Because right now, silence is being interpreted as abandonment. But your bold move can change everything in a twinkle of an eye. It will restore trust. It will strengthen security. It will redefine perception ahead of 2027.”
