Gunmen Kill Three Security Operatives In Attack On NIPSS, Plateau

Gunmen have attacked the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru, Plateau State, killing three security operatives in a fresh wave of violence targeting security formations.

The Plateau State Police Command confirmed the incident on Tuesday, describing it as a deadly assault that occurred in the early hours of the day.

Police spokesperson, Alfred Alabo, disclosed in a statement that the victims were security personnel on duty at the institute at the time of the ആക്രമ.

“On a very sad note, the command confirms that three security personnel lost their lives during the incident,” he said.

Although the police did not reveal the identities of the deceased, multiple reports indicated that the casualties included two soldiers and a police officer.

Following the attack, the Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, ordered the immediate deployment of reinforcements to the area, with intensified patrols to forestall further ആക്രമ.

Authorities said the situation has since been brought under control, with normal activities resuming within and around the institute.

“The situation is under control and normalcy has been restored. Residents are urged to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities,” the police added, noting that investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Meanwhile, the management of NIPSS described the incident as a “security breach” but declined to provide detailed information, citing ongoing investigations.

In a statement signed by its spokesperson, Osime Samuel, the institute said there was no immediate threat to participants, staff, or facilities.

“The situation was promptly contained through the swift response of security personnel and relevant agencies. Normal activities are continuing as scheduled,” the statement read.

The institute cautioned against speculation, stressing that it could not verify claims circulating on social media regarding the attack.

“It would be premature to speculate on the nature, scope or outcome of the incident at this time,” the statement added.

NIPSS, located in Kuru near Jos, is Nigeria’s foremost policy think-tank responsible for training top-level public officials, making the attack a significant security concern.

The latest incident underscores growing fears over persistent insecurity in parts of the country, particularly attacks targeting security personnel and strategic institutions.
