A transport company, Akmode Transport Limited, has raised the alarm over alleged attacks, assault on its staff and unlawful seizure of its motorcycles by suspected members of motorcycle unions in Ogun State.
The firm, in a statement issued on Tuesday by its Manager, Comrade Mustapha Tiamiyu, accused some union members and unidentified hoodlums of orchestrating the incidents in collaboration with certain government officials.
According to the statement, the incidents occurred around the Lafenwa, Sabo and Ogun Radio axis of Abeokuta, where the company operates, allegedly over disputes linked to union sticker issuance and illegal tax demands.
The company said the attacks began on June 1, 2026, when some of its staff members were reportedly assaulted, while their motorcycles were forcefully seized and taken to undisclosed locations.
It described the development as “criminal and provocative,” alleging that the actions were part of attempts by rival groups to disrupt its operations.
“Akmode Transport Limited has continued to face attacks, threats and intimidation, with motorcycles forcefully impounded and taken to unknown destinations,” the statement read.
The firm further alleged that the perpetrators acted with the backing of some government and security officials, a claim it said was evident in the persistence of the incidents despite prior reports to relevant authorities.
It added that previous efforts by rival unions to halt its operations had failed, noting that the latest incidents were aimed at causing unrest and tarnishing its image.
The company, however, urged its affected staff members to remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that steps were being taken to address the situation through lawful means.
It also called on security agencies, the media and members of the public to intervene to ensure justice and prevent a breakdown of law and order in the affected areas.
