Nana Otedola, the wife of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, has clarified her identity.
The mother of DJ Cuppy addressed the issue of her identity while speaking with her pregnant daughter, Temi Otedola, in a video making the rounds online.
She noted that people mistake her for a Ghanaian, even though she was born and bred in Nigeria. According to her, her true roots are in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and she is an Egba woman.
“To clear the room for everybody, I’m an Egba woman, and that’s the part I’ll gladly claim as a Nigerian. I am not a Ghanaian; my roots are in Abeokuta,” she said.
Nana Otedola said that though she was born in Kaduna State in northern Nigeria and spent nearly 20 years living there, her ethnic identity remains firmly Egba.
She noted that her long stay in different parts of the country may have contributed to the confusion about her background.
“I was born in Kaduna and lived there for almost two decades”.
Elsewhere in the video, she shared details about her name, revealing that she is known as Nana Fatima, a name her grandfather gave her at her naming ceremony.
“I go by the name Nana Fatima, given to me on my sunnah by my grandfather”.
Over the years, there have been public misconceptions about Nana Otedola’s nationality, with some social media users wrongly assuming she has Ghanaian roots.
Her latest statement about her identity undoubtedly aims to correct those assumptions and affirm her Nigerian identity.
On her latest podcast, Temi Otedola revealed that her mother has the final say, and even their father can’t go against it. She recounted an incident in which her mom made Cuppy finish the strong amala she had made before leaving the house.
Two months ago, reports made rounds that Femi and his wife of over two decades have parted ways. Kemi Filani noticed that the couple had unfollowed each other on Instagram. Femi had also failed to celebrate Nana on Mother’s Day and Women’s Day.
Further fueling the rumours, Femi was noticeably absent as Temi Otedola celebrated her 30th birthday in Spain. She held an intimate bash which included her husband, Mr Eazi, her mother, Nana Otedola and her sisters, DJ Cuppy and Tolani Otedola.
The couple, however, shutdown the report as they reunited for a family vacation with their kids.
Notably absent from the family vacation pictures was the couple’s only son, Fewa who has a disability.
During Temi Otedola’s wedding last year, Otedola credited his wife for single-handedly raising the family. He revealed that when they had Temi, he was busy looking for money to care for them. Femi said Nana sacrificed everything, even enduring his bad habits, to ensure the kids were well looked after and spent every minute with them.
In 2023, the billionaire left the internet stunned when he revealed he had a girlfriend in the Philippines. The businessman made this known while exchanging pleasantries with the crew members on his yacht.
During a question-and-answer session with her mother, Temi dropped some bombshells. During the game, Temi revealed that her mother would likely return to her ex. On the other hand, Nana was perplexed by her daughter’s revelation, wondering why Temi chose her.
