In a statement, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said it strongly condemned the attack and expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.
“We condemn the attack on the Kuwait International Airport today in which an Indian national has died and several of our nationals are injured. Since the onset of the conflict in West Asia, we have strongly urged that civilian population and civilian infrastructure must not be targeted. We again call upon parties to cease such attacks,” the ministry said.
The MEA said the Indian Embassy in Kuwait is extending all possible assistance to those injured and remains in close contact with local authorities regarding the welfare of Indian nationals. It added that Indian missions and posts across the region have been placed on alert and continue to provide support to the Indian community.
Earlier, the Embassy of India in Kuwait confirmed the death of an Indian national in the attack and said it was coordinating closely with Kuwaiti authorities to assist the bereaved family and those injured in the incident.
According to Kuwait’s state-run KUNA news agency, air traffic at Kuwait International Airport was suspended after strikes hit Terminal One, causing casualties and damage to airport infrastructure. Directorate General of Civil Aviation spokesperson Abdullah Al-Rajhi said the airport had halted operations following the attack.
The incident comes amid heightened tensions in West Asia, with India repeatedly urging all parties to avoid targeting civilians and critical infrastructure.
Separately, the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) condemned the attacks on Bahrain and Kuwait, describing them as attacks on civilian infrastructure and a dangerous escalation of tensions in the region.
In a statement, GCC Secretary-General Jasem Mohamed Albudaiwi said the strikes reflected Iran’s continued aggressive posture and constituted a violation of international law, the United Nations Charter and established international norms. He called for a firm international response to deter further attacks and safeguard the security, stability and sovereignty of GCC member states.
