“Many Pastors Benifit From The Crisis”- Spyro Speaks On Nigeria’s Challenges

Nigerian Afrobeats star Spyro has expressed concern over the role of religious leaders amid the country’s ongoing economic difficulties and security challenges.

During an appearance on Wazobia FM Lagos, the singer behind the hit song “Who’s Your Guy” stated that many influential clerics have not been outspoken enough about the issues affecting Nigerians.

Spyro emphasized that religious leaders owe it to their followers to speak up on matters that impact their welfare and daily lives. He noted that, given their influence, they should take a more active stance in addressing national concerns.

The musician further alleged that some members of the clergy may be unwilling to criticize prevailing conditions because they benefit from them.

He also faulted religious institutions for not doing enough to educate their members on civic responsibilities and the electoral process. According to him, faith-based organizations possess considerable influence and could help promote greater political awareness and informed participation in elections.

His words …

“Nigerian religious leaders should speak up against insecurity. They should tell the people on how to secure themselves and include the issue of insecurity in their sermons. They should also give their congregants proper electoral orientations.

“Unfortunately, they are not doing that because the more the country is spoiling, the more money they make.

“Anywhere there is a crisis in a country, the people who benefit the most are religious leaders.

“We should make sure we hold all our leaders, including clerics, accountable,”
