A wave of reactions has swept across social media following the circulation of a video showing the aftermath of the reported abduction of the younger sister of former Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, and her twin sons in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The disturbing footage, which quickly went viral online, captured a damaged red sedan abandoned at the scene of the incident in the Challenge area of Ibadan South-West Local Government Area. The vehicle’s driver’s side window appeared shattered, while its doors were left open, drawing a crowd of residents who gathered to assess the situation.
The video sparked widespread concern among Nigerians, many of whom expressed shock over the growing wave of kidnappings in Oyo State and across the country.
According to reports, the victims were abducted on Wednesday morning by suspected gunmen while travelling from the Elewura area to connect to the expressway. The kidnapped woman is said to be Adelabu’s younger sister, while the twins were identified as Peter and Paul.
In the viral footage, a visibly distressed woman was heard identifying the victim as the younger sister of Adelabu, popularly known by his nickname, “Penkelemesi.” Another voice in the video also confirmed the family connection, further fueling public interest in the incident.
Reacting online, many Nigerians lamented the worsening security situation and questioned how kidnappers were able to carry out such an operation in a busy part of the state capital.
Others called on security agencies to intensify rescue efforts and ensure the safe return of the victims.
The incident has also reignited conversations about recent cases of abduction in Oyo State, including the kidnapping of dozens of students and teachers in Oriire Local Government Area and the earlier abduction of APC chieftain Wale Oriade.
One social media user wrote that the development showed that insecurity had become a challenge affecting people across all social and political backgrounds, while another urged authorities to act swiftly before the situation escalates further.
The reported abduction was confirmed by one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro, who stated that the former minister’s younger sister and her twin sons were taken by unknown gunmen during the attack.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force in Oyo State, CSP Olayinka Ayanlade, said he could not immediately verify the incident when contacted.
