Speaking at the event, Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, said the public destruction of the drugs reflects the state’s determination to protect communities from the dangers of illicit substances.

“The public destruction demonstrates our firm resolve to deny criminal networks the ability to poison our communities,” the governor said.

Yusuf noted that the state government is complementing enforcement efforts with rehabilitation initiatives.

He highlighted measures including visits to the Kiru Rehabilitation Centre, the establishment of the Anti-Illicit Drugs and Phone Snatching Committee, the deployment of marshals to identified hotspots, and the Safe Corridor Project aimed at reintegrating youths into society.

The governor also disclosed that more than 400 youths had been arrested in recent operations, with many rehabilitated and reintegrated into society, while hardened offenders were being prosecuted.

“We will continue to strengthen intelligence sharing, expand rehabilitation capacity, and provide logistical support to security agencies,” he added.
