NIPSS Attack: D-G confirms arrest of suspects, as DIG visits institute

Vice President Kashim Shettima on Friday arrived in Jos, Plateau State, for an on-the-spot assessment and condolence visit to the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) in Kuru.

The high-level visit followed a deadly attack carried out by armed men at the prestigious policy institute earlier in the week.

Gunmen launched an assault on the NIPSS facility in the early hours of Tuesday, June 16, 2026, engaging security operatives in a fierce exchange of gunfire.

The attack resulted in the deaths of three security personnel, specifically identified as two soldiers and one police officer guarding the staff quarters.

Security forces successfully repelled the invaders, preventing them from accessing key strategic areas.

The Plateau State Police Command subsequently deployed reinforcements and intensified patrols to secure the perimeter.

Accompanied by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang and other senior government dignitaries, VP Shettima was received at the Kuru campus by the NIPSS Director-General, Professor Ayo Omotayo.

During the visit, the Vice President will inspect the affected facilities and staff quarters to review physical vulnerabilities. He will also receive direct security briefings from heads of security agencies regarding the circumstances of the breach and current containment measures.

Meanwhile, authorities have continued investigations into the attack as efforts intensify to bring all those responsible to justice.
