The Ogun State Police Command has commenced investigation into the killing of a former Ogun State Television broadcaster, Ms. Kitan Oyesiku, and her security guard at her residence in Iyana Agodo Village, Owode-Egba area of the state.
The incident, which reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, has thrown family members, neighbours, former colleagues and residents of the area into shock.
Oyesiku, a retired staff member of Ogun State Television, was said to have been murdered inside her apartment, while her security guard was found dead at his duty post.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the command, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Sunday.
According to him, a resident raised an alarm after noticing suspicious movements around the premises, prompting police officers to visit the house.
Babaseyi said preliminary assessment by detectives showed signs of forced entry and disturbance within the residence.
“Police detectives were immediately deployed to the scene, where preliminary assessment revealed signs of forced entry and disturbance,” he said.
“During a thorough search of the premises, the corpse of the security guard was discovered within the security post, while the body of Ms. Oyesiku was later found inside her apartment.
“The victim’s vehicle was also observed missing from the premises.”
The missing vehicle, according to the police, has raised further suspicion of foul play.
Babaseyi said the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, has ordered a full-scale investigation into the killings, adding that detectives have intensified efforts to identify and arrest those behind the incident.
He said intelligence-led operations and surveillance had been extended to strategic locations as part of efforts to unravel the circumstances surrounding the deaths and recover the stolen vehicle.
The police spokesperson expressed condolences to the families of the deceased, the management of OGTV and members of the media community, describing the incident as tragic.
He urged residents to remain calm and provide useful information that could assist the ongoing investigation.
The late Oyesiku was well known in media circles in Ogun State, having served with OGTV before her retirement.
News of her death has sparked grief among colleagues, friends and residents, with many describing the killing as shocking and disturbing.
The latest incident comes months after the Federal Capital Territory Police Command confirmed the killing of an ARISE News Channel presenter, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, and a security guard during a suspected armed robbery attack at her residence in the Katampe area of Abuja.
Police later said 11 suspects linked to the Abuja incident were arraigned before a Federal Capital Territory court for criminal conspiracy, armed robbery and murder.
