Somalia: Joy, cheers and dancing rocked the Aden Adde International Airport in Somalia as referee Omar Artan received a hero’s welcome upon his return to Mogadishu after being denied entry into the United States.
Artan was denied entry into the US despite holding a valid visa, blocking his participation in the 2026 World Cup which was a lifelong dream for him.
After getting the news, he responded with composure, thanking FIFA, CAF, and fans for their solidarity while pledging to stay focused on his refereeing career. After the denial, Artan expressed optimism, sending goodwill to colleagues and vowing to return stronger in future competitions.

On June 10, the man who was set to be the first Somali referee to officiate the World Cup arrived at home in Mogadishu and was mobbed by supporters.
