Former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Senator Iyiola Omisore, and several party loyalists in Osun State have reportedly resigned from the APC and aligned with the political camp of Governor Ademola Adeleke, reports thegazellenews.com
Thegazellenews.com reports further that the defections reportedly followed a series of meetings held at the Adeleke family residence in Ede before the move was formalised.
Sources within the party told thegazellenews.com said the development had been anticipated in some quarters and therefore did not come as a surprise.
“Their resignation from the APC should not come as a surprise. Before making this move, they had held several meetings at the Adelekes’ country home in Ede,” a party source said.
Furthermore, the source maintained that the defections would not destabilise the party, arguing that political realignments remain a recurring feature of Osun politics.
“However, their decision will not catch us unaware. In fact, no one should be surprised if, within a few days, some of these same individuals defect once again,” the source added.
The development has sparked renewed discussions about shifting political alliances in Osun State, particularly given Omisore’s political history and influence within the APC.
It has also revived memories of the long-standing rivalry between Omisore and the Adeleke political family, including past political confrontations involving the late Isiaka Adeleke.
Those reportedly leaving the APC alongside Omisore are: Hon. Kemi Okedairo (Chairman), Tona Omisore, Hon. Famurewa Israel, Hon. Ismail Kolawole, Lekan Oyediran, Jamiu Olawumi, Yemi Lawal, Folorunsho Bamisayemi, Taiwo Akeju, Bayo Omojoyegbe, Akindiya Olaoluwa, Lanre Balogun (Chairman), Oba Yekini Omisore, Ogunmola Folusho (Chairman), Tobi Famurewa (Chairman), Wale Ojo, Alhaji Funmilayo Adekanmi, Adeniyi Ismail A., Anfani for All, Ayotunde David A., Egbetunde Ganiyu, Faderera Mercy O. (Chairman), Barrister Ojo Williams and Bashorun Osupa Arankaye.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Omisore nor the Osun State chapter of the APC had officially commented on the reported defections.
