Ondo State-owned Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba-Akoko, has unveiled Tomola Obamuyi as its new Vice Chancellor, following the approval of his appointment by Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Ebenezer Adeniyan, on Friday.
Adeniyan disclosed that the appointment followed the due recommendation of the Governing Council of the institution, in line with the University’s Act and extant regulations.
The council, chaired by Tunji Abayomi, had recommended Obamuyi, a professor, for the position after he emerged first among 15 candidates interviewed by the Joint Council and Senate Selection Board of the institution.
The distinguished scholar of Banking and Finance will succeed the outgoing VC, Professor Olugbenga Ige.
Obamuyi has held several significant academic and administrative positions, including Head of the Department of Banking and Finance at AAUA, and the first substantive Dean of the School of Management Technology at the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA).
He was awarded the “Best Professor of Banking and Finance in Africa for 2015” by the Africa Education Leadership Awards, Mauritius.
Obamuyi also served as a member of the National Universities Commission programme accreditation teams, as well as chairperson and subject expert of the review panel for the National Council for Higher Education in Namibia.
He has presented conference papers in Finland, the United Kingdom, Canada, Sweden, Ireland, Ghana, Zambia, Uganda, Ethiopia, India, and the United States of America.
Governor Aiyedatiwa noted that Obamuyi’s wealth of experience would consolidate the gains recorded by AAUA and take the university to greater heights in teaching, research, and community service.
He urged him to uphold the core values of AAUA while fostering peace, innovation, and collaboration among staff, students, and stakeholders.
