Otti Receives Insurance Industry Delegation, Backs Expanded Insurance Penetration in Abia

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State on Monday received a high-powered delegation from the Nigerian insurance industry led by the President of the Nigerian Council of Registered Insurance Brokers (), Mrs. Ekeoma Ezeibe.

The delegation also included the Commissioner for Insurance and Chief Executive Officer of the National Insurance Commission (), Mr. Olusegun Ayo Omosehin, alongside other key industry stakeholders, as part of activities marking the ongoing 2026 Insurance Chief Executive Officers’ Retreat in Umuahia.

Governor Otti commended the council for its sustained efforts in promoting insurance awareness and expanding insurance penetration across Nigeria, noting that the sector remains critical to economic stability and risk management.

He emphasized that insurance plays a vital role in safeguarding individuals, businesses, and investments against unforeseen risks, adding that stronger public engagement by industry operators will help build trust and confidence in the sector.

The governor further highlighted the importance of insurance to Abia State’s economy, where many residents are engaged in commerce, manufacturing, and small and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs). He described insurance as a crucial safety net for sustaining business growth and economic resilience.

Welcoming the launch of the Insurance Penetration Initiative in Abia State, Governor Otti pledged his administration’s full support for policies and programmes aimed at encouraging wider participation in insurance services.

He reiterated his government’s commitment to promoting financial security, economic sustainability, and inclusive growth for all citizens of the state.

Governor Otti also wished participants in the ongoing insurance CEOs retreat fruitful deliberations and successful outcomes that would strengthen the industry and enhance national development.
