According to a report by This Day Live on Monday, June 1, 2026, fear and uncertainty have persisted across communities in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State after the coordinated attack carried out on three educational institutions located in the rural settlements of Ahoro-Esin-Ile, Yawota, and Alawusa on May 15.
Survivors of the incident and relatives of those affected have continued to recount the traumatic experiences they endured during the assault.
Residents of the affected communities said the attack disrupted academic activities and left many students, teachers, and parents shaken.
The incident has continued to generate anxiety among families, with concerns growing over the safety of schools in the area and the wellbeing of those who were caught in the violence.
One of the students still grappling with the memories of that day is Aminat, who managed to escape unharmed after armed men invaded her school while examinations were in progress.
The student said the frightening experience remains fresh in her mind, weeks after the attack.
According to her account, the school day had started normally, with students focused on their examination.
The situation changed abruptly when the sound of gunfire echoed through the school environment, causing panic among students and staff members.
As the shooting intensified, students reportedly abandoned their examination papers and fled in different directions in search of safety.
Many ran into nearby bushes and surrounding areas to avoid being caught in the attack, while confusion spread across the school premises.
Aminat said the sudden outbreak of violence left both students and teachers scrambling for safety. She recalled that the fear generated by the gunshots forced everyone to act instinctively, with no time to organize an orderly evacuation from the school grounds.
“We were writing an exam when we heard them shooting. That’s how we ran into the bush. Even our teacher ran away. We haven’t seen him since then,” she said….See More
