Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, widely known as Pasuma Wonder, Oganla, or Ijoba Fuji, is one of Nigeria’s most successful Fuji musicians and cultural icons. With a career spanning over three decades, he has helped reshape Fuji music and bring it into mainstream entertainment across Africa.
Pasuma was born on 27 November 1967 in Mushin, Lagos State, Nigeria, although he originally hails from Edunabon in Ife North Local Government Area, Osun State. He grew up in a modest household raised primarily by his mother, Alhaja Adijat Kubura Odetola (Iyawo Anobi), after his parents separated when he was young.
His upbringing in Mushin exposed him to street life and hardship, experiences that later shaped his music style and lyrical storytelling.
Pasuma attended Muslim Mission Primary School and later Nigerian Model High School, Mushin. During his school years, he developed a passion for music and began writing songs in the early 1980s. His inspiration came from Fuji pioneers, especially K1 De Ultimate, who influenced his early sound and direction.
Pasuma officially began his music journey in 1984, but his breakthrough came in 1993 with the release of his debut album titled “Recognition”. The album gained massive attention and marked the beginning of his rise in the Fuji music industry.
Over the years, Pasuma has released more than 30 Fuji albums, building a strong fan base known for his energetic performances and street appeal. His music blends traditional Fuji with Afrobeat and modern hip-hop influences, making him popular among both older and younger audiences.
Some of his popular songs include:
Iseju Meji
Omo Ologo
Action
Oruka
Oganla
He has also collaborated with top Nigerian artists such as Olamide, Phyno, Davido, Tiwa Savage, 9ice, and King Sunny Ade, further expanding his reach beyond Fuji music.
In addition to music, Pasuma has made a name for himself in Nollywood. He has featured in several movies, including Iyanje, Alenibare, and Gangs of Lagos. His acting career has helped him connect with a wider audience beyond music fans.
Pasuma is a father of multiple children and is known for keeping much of his personal life private. Despite his fame, he is often described as humble and deeply connected to his fans. He is also recognized for his philanthropic efforts and support for upcoming artists.
