Port Harcourt, Rivers State – Residents of Old Port Harcourt Township were reportedly thrown into panic on Friday, June 19, 2026, following an alleged rampage by students of PABOD Secondary School after completing their West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).
According to eyewitness accounts, the students allegedly took to the streets around Bernard Carr Street and Port Johnson Street, where they reportedly assaulted residents, disrupted business activities, and damaged property.
Sources within the area claimed that the students became unruly shortly after leaving their examination centre, allegedly attacking passersby and causing chaos in the neighborhood. Several residents and traders were said to have sustained injuries during the incident, while some business owners reportedly suffered losses as a result of the alleged destruction of goods and property.
One of the affected properties was reportedly a tricycle van carrying sachet water belonging to St. Cyprian’s Anglican Church. Witnesses alleged that the vehicle was carted away during the disturbance.
Victims who spoke about the incident described the experience as traumatic and called on security agencies and relevant authorities to investigate the matter and bring those responsible to justice.
Residents expressed concern over what they described as a growing trend of post-examination misconduct among some students and urged school authorities, parents, and law enforcement agencies to take proactive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the management of PABOD Secondary School nor the Rivers State Police Command had issued an official statement regarding the allegations.
Authorities are expected to investigate the claims and establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
