Poland head coach Jan Urban praised Nigeria’s clinical finishing after his side battled to a 2-2 draw with the Super Eagles in an international friendly in Warsaw.
Nigeria took the lead in the 25th minute through Terem Moffi before Kacper Potulski restored parity for the hosts before the break.
Paul Onuachu converted a penalty in the 77th minute to put the Super Eagles back in front, but Przemyslaw Wiśniewski struck deep into stoppage time to earn Poland a share of the spoils.
Despite conceding twice, Urban said he was encouraged by his team’s overall display.
He said: “The scenario from the previous matches repeated itself — we played, the opponent scored.
“But I wasn’t concerned because we played well.
“And we played well after the goal.
“It was a good match against a good team.”
The Poland coach, however, admitted that Nigeria’s ability to convert limited opportunities proved decisive throughout the contest.
Urban said: “The worst thing is that the opponent doesn’t create countless chances and takes only two or three.
“They are very cruel to us.”
He added: “But these are friendly matches; they won’t judge us for them.”
The coach also pointed to the impact of Nigeria’s changes at half-time, revealing that the Super Eagles’ seven substitutions altered the flow of the game and forced his side to rethink their approach.
Urban said: “We were partly playing for the result. But I also saw that we were playing well.
“We were creating chances, and we were close to scoring.
“Bartek Slisz’s positioning and disposition helped us secure the backline.
“He played an excellent game.
“Later, we wanted to chase the result, so we changed to a four-man defence.”
The Polish tactician urged observers to consider the physical demands placed on his players, many of whom arrived in camp after completing a full domestic season.
He said: “Today was a really good match.
“I didn’t feel helpless, looking at the players who had the entire season in their stride during this training camp.
“I would have behaved the same way after the entire season. I know this from experience.”
Looking ahead, Urban said preparations for competitive action would leave little room for further experimentation.
He said: “No one will have time for experiments. We will take the Nations League seriously; I can’t imagine it any other way.”
Nigeria will now travel to Leiria for their final friendly of the international window against Portugal on June 10.
