Troops Rescue 53 Civilians, Recover Eight Vehicles as Terrorists’ Roadblock Is Dismantled in Borno

Troops of the 135 Special Forces Battalion under Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI have rescued 53 civilians and recovered eight vehicles after dismantling a terrorists’ roadblock mounted by suspected JAS/ISWAP insurgents along the Buratai–Kamuya Road in Biu Local Government Area of Borno State.

The operation, which took place on Wednesday, June 24, 2026, followed intelligence gathered through surveillance cameras at Dutse Kura, where troops detected terrorists blocking the highway.

A Quick Reaction Force (QRF) was immediately deployed to the scene and pursued the insurgents toward the Mangari–Dora axis. The troops engaged the terrorists in a fierce gun battle, forcing them to flee in disarray.

During the operation, the troops successfully rescued 53 civilians who had been held up by the terrorists and recovered eight vehicles seized during the attack. They also advanced to clear the insurgents’ withdrawal route, dominating the area and conducting further searches, although no additional contact with the fleeing terrorists was made.

All rescued civilians, recovered vehicles, and other properties were safely evacuated to Buratai town. The rescued persons are currently undergoing documentation and medical evaluation.

Commending the troops for their professionalism and swift response, the Theatre Command of Operation HADIN KAI urged residents across the Joint Operations Area to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information on suspicious movements and activities.

The military added that the security situation in the area remains calm as troops maintain an aggressive operational posture and continue clearance operations to deny terrorists freedom of movement.
