‘We Will Not Bow to Terrorists’ — Tinubu Reacts to Major-General Abubakar’s Death

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has declared that the Federal Government will not bow to terrorists’ demands following the death of retired Major-General Rabe Abubakar in captivity.

Abubakar, a former Director of Defence Information, was abducted alongside his wife while travelling to his hometown in Katsina State. He later died while still being held by the terrorists.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu expressed shock and sadness over the retired General’s death and extended condolences to his family, the Katsina State Government and the Armed Forces of Nigeria.

The President revealed that the terrorists had demanded the release of their members being held by security agencies as a condition for freeing the retired military officer.

Tinubu, however, insisted that his administration would never surrender to such demands, saying terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and sponsors of terror must either surrender or face the full force of the Nigerian State.

He also commiserated with Abubakar’s wife, who is reportedly still being held against her will by the abductors, and assured Nigerians that the fight against terrorism would continue with renewed determination.

The President described Abubakar’s death as a defining moment in Nigeria’s battle against terrorists and insurgents, stressing that the government would not negotiate with criminal groups on their terms.

He urged Nigerians to remain united, assuring citizens that the enemies of the nation would be defeated.
