Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has called for calm following a suspected cult-related killing in Osogbo, urging security agencies to investigate the incident and bring those responsible to justice.

The governor, in a statement on Thursday by his spokesperson, Mallam Olawale Rasheed, condemned the killing and subsequent unrest, while dismissing allegations linking the state government to the incident.

Adeleke said security agencies must act swiftly to prevent the situation from worsening the state’s security challenges following recent political violence.

“We receive with concern recent suspected cult killing at Osogbo and we call on security agencies to enforce the law and go after the culprits. The killing and the subsequent rampage are condemnable,” the governor was quoted as saying.

He added, “The incidents of cult violence at Osogbo should be curtailed immediately so as not to complicate the delicate security situation after recent political violence in the state. I call on security agencies to investigate and apprehend those involved in this dastardly act.”

The governor also distanced himself and his administration from the incident, describing claims of government involvement as false and urging residents to disregard misinformation.

According to the statement, the Accord Party is still mourning some of its members who were allegedly killed by political thugs in recent weeks.

“Neither the governor nor his government were involved in these unfortunate incidents. We call on members of the public to ignore fake news and propaganda. The security agencies should investigate and bring those responsible to account,” the statement added.

Adeleke further appealed to residents to remain calm while security agencies work to restore peace and ensure those behind the violence are brought to justice.
