BREAKING: Ex-Driver to Die by Hanging for Killing 80-Year-Old Employer and Wife in Abuja

A High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) in Abuja has sentenced Jonathan Marcus to death by hanging for the brutal murder of an elderly couple, Mr. Adebola Ezekiel and his wife, Mrs. Abiodun Ezekiel, at their residence in Apo Legislative Quarters, Abuja.

The judgment, delivered on Tuesday, July 1, 2026, followed the court’s finding that the prosecution had proved beyond reasonable doubt that Marcus was responsible for the gruesome killings.

The victims, Mr. Adebola Ezekiel, aged 80, and his wife, Mrs. Abiodun Ezekiel, were found murdered in their home on April 1, 2024. Marcus had previously worked as the couple’s driver before his employment was terminated.

According to the prosecution, Marcus returned to the couple’s residence on the night of the incident and carried out the deadly attack before fleeing the Federal Capital Territory in an attempt to evade arrest.

Following an intensive investigation, operatives of the FCT Police Command tracked him to Obajana in Kogi State, where he was apprehended and brought back to Abuja to face prosecution.

During the trial, the court heard evidence linking Marcus to the crime. After reviewing the testimonies and exhibits presented, Justice M. S. Idris ruled that the prosecution had established its case beyond reasonable doubt.

The court subsequently convicted Jonathan Marcus of the double murder and sentenced him to death by hanging in accordance with the law.

Reacting to the judgment, the FCT Police Command described the conviction as a significant milestone in the pursuit of justice. The command commended the investigators and prosecutors for their dedication throughout the case and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the Federal Capital Territory.
