The Lagos State Government has deployed a swamp buggy to the Ogombo canal in Eti-Osa Local Government Area to clear and desilt the drainage channel following recent flooding.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports the intervention followed an inspection of communities affected by heavy rainfall in the area.
The Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the development in a post on his official X handle on Thursday.
Wahab said the clearing and desilting of the canal had commenced to restore its capacity and improve stormwater discharge.
He said the exercise would widen and deepen the canal to ensure the free flow of stormwater and reduce flooding in affected communities.
According to him, the intervention will improve the drainage system and accelerate the recession of floodwaters.
The commissioner reaffirmed the state’s commitment to proactive flood control measures aimed at reducing the impact of heavy rainfall on lives, property and infrastructure.
Residents of flood-prone communities have continued to call for sustained drainage maintenance and other long-term measures to curb flooding during the rainy season.
NAN reports that persistent rainfall in recent days has caused flooding in parts of Lagos State.
