“I am sorry for what I have done as a mother, but I had no choice, being that I am homeless and struggling to stabilise my life,” she wrote. “I would have loved to keep him, but I have no means of survival.”

She went on to express her wish that Levi find a loving children’s home or foster family, and asked whoever found him to forgive her. Most strikingly, she disclosed that suicidal thoughts had crept in, though she made clear she did not want her son to come to any harm.

“I’d rather be homeless alone than with him,” she wrote. “Suicidal thoughts had risen but I’d rather die alone than with him.”

Kenyan Well-wisher Steps in

Nkatha, founder of the NGO Frolics of Hope Africa, shared the case on Facebook on 2 July, appealing to the public for help in tracing the mother and ensuring the child’s welfare. She later confirmed that Baby Baraka had been located and was safe.
