“Nigeria’s Builders Are Gone, What We Have Now Are Influencers”- Iyinoluwa Aboyeji Raises Concerns Over Today’s Generation

Nigerian entrepreneur and technology investor, Iyinoluwa Aboyeji, has sparked conversations after sharing his thoughts on the changing mindset of younger generations and the decline of a strong culture of building lasting value.

Speaking during a recent discussion, Aboyeji argued that the generation responsible for laying the foundations of Nigeria’s major institutions has largely passed on, leaving behind what he described as a society increasingly driven by influence rather than innovation and productivity.

According to the Andela co-founder, many people today are more focused on visibility and performance than on developing the skills and discipline needed to create meaningful impact.

“The generation of people who built Nigeria has passed away. What you have now are influencers. We are a generation of influencers,” Aboyeji said.

He further criticized what he sees as a growing culture where people are trained to present themselves rather than build solutions, businesses, and systems that can stand the test of time.

“People are trained to perform, not to build. People don’t understand value,” he added.

Aboyeji’s comments have generated discussions online, with many Nigerians debating whether the current generation prioritizes social recognition over entrepreneurship, craftsmanship, and long-term contribution.
