The Ondo State Police Command has rescued a 61-year-old woman, Mrs Modupe Oladele, who was abducted by armed men in Owo, and recovered her stolen vehicle after a gun battle with the suspects.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the victim was abducted in the early hours of June 23, 2026, after armed hoodlums invaded her residence in Owo.
Jimoh said the assailants also stole her Toyota Matrix vehicle with registration number WWW-434-AG.
Following a distress call, operatives launched a coordinated pursuit and intercepted the suspects around Ojana Phase 3.
“The suspects fled into the surrounding bush, with some believed to have sustained gunshot injuries during the exchange of fire,” Jimoh stated.
The police recovered two expended cartridges, a sandal believed to belong to one of the suspects, and a torchlight at the scene.
Jimoh said efforts were ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, some of whom were believed to have sustained gunshot wounds.
Commissioner of Police Felix Ohagwu commended the operatives for their swift response and urged residents to continue providing credible information to support crime-fighting efforts in the state.
