A suspected criminal identified as Wasiu Oloyede has been arrested by police after he was allegedly found wearing a stolen military uniform belonging to a soldier who was reportedly kidnapped in Alagbado, Lagos.
According to reports, Oloyede and members of his gang allegedly abducted the soldier on Friday and took him to their hideout, where they stripped him of his military uniform and dispossessed him of his military identity card, ATM cards, and mobile phone. The soldier, however, reportedly escaped from captivity.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday in the Odo Pako area of Ota, Ogun State, after he allegedly wore the stolen military uniform in public.
Witnesses said Oloyede allegedly attempted to snatch a Dane gun from a local vigilante member while dressed in the army camouflage. He was reportedly overpowered by the vigilante and subsequently handed over to the police.
Authorities are expected to continue investigations to track down other members of the alleged gang and recover the stolen items.
The incident has also renewed concerns over the criminal use of security uniforms, with security experts warning that impersonating security personnel poses a serious threat to public safety.
